Impact Investing’s Next Chapter: Integrity Through Assurance
March 09, 2020
New standards are emerging that are shifting sustainable and impact investing further beyond good intentions toward real proof points. These standards hold promise to enable a new vision for the market, by providing clarity regarding what constitutes credible impact practice and performance, bringing the confidence needed for more investors to enter the market. The 2019 launch of the IFC-led Operating Principles for Impact Management was a watershed moment, creating a mandate for independent verification of impact management practices for the first time. Rather than deter investors from using the Principles, the assurance requirement has strengthened the value and momentum of the effort. In this event, we discuss the existing, emerging, and future roles for impact assurance in sustainable and impact investing.
